RAMADHAN AND RECITING THE QURAN | Shaykh Abdul-Qaadir al-Junayd
Our Salaf used to give great dedication to the Quran during the month of Ramadhān and they would give great care and importance to it and they would abundantly increase in its recitation. Some of them would complete it every Friday. Some of them would complete it every five days, and some every three days. Imam al-Bukhāri - May Allāh have mercy on him - used to complete the Quran once each day. Imam ash-Shāfi’i used to complete the Quran twice each day. And how would this not be their condition with the Qurān? while Ramadhān is the month in which the Qurān was revealed as Allāh عز وجل says in the verses of fasting in surah al-Baqarah, “The month of Ramadhan [is that] in which the Qur'an was revealed, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion.”
And how would this not be their condition with the Quran? when the time of Ramadhān is the best of times and good deeds are increased and multiplied. It was authentically reported that Ibn Abbās رضي الله عنه said: “Learn the Quran, for indeed it is written for (reading) every letter, ten good deeds and expiates ten bad deeds, and I do not say alif, laam and meem (as one) but rather alif is ten rewards lam is ten rewards and meem is ten rewards” Therefore devote yourselves - May Allah set straight your affairs- to the Quran during this great, blessed month and encourage your families, men and women, young and old with its recitation and doing much of it and make your homes, abodes of travel and time filled with it.
