When you ask Allah for a need, ask in (a state of) well-being - Shaykh Muhammad Bāzmool حفظه الله

Shaykh Muhammad bin Umar Baazmool: When you ask Allah for a need, ask in (a state of) well-being. Imam Ahmad said: I was memorizing the Quran and when I sought (memorizing/studying) Hadeeth, I became busy (with that), I said: when (will a have time)? So I asked Allah to bless me memorize it and I didn’t say in a state of well-being. So I did not memorize it except while I was in prison and constrained. Therefore when you ask Allah for a need then ask (for that thing) while being in a state of well-being. ( مناقب الإمام أحمد لابن الجوزي، صـ ٣٩). I say: this is an important etiquette, when a muslim asks his Lord he should say for example: my Lord provide me with such and such and he stipulates (in addition to) that by saying: in a state of well-being or if this is good for me and similar to that. Indeed the Muslim doesn’t know where the good will be. And this is from the meanings which is indicated in the statement of Allah:

وَيَدْعُ الْإِنسَانُ بِالشَّرِّ دُعَاءَهُ بِالْخَيْرِ ۖ وَكَانَ الْإِنسَانُ عَجُولًا (11) “And man supplicates for evil as he supplicates for good, and man is ever hasty.”

And with Allah is success
